The Cardinals won a simply amazing game last night against the Rangers. Things were looking really bad in the bottom of the 9th inning for the Cardinals as they were down 7-5 with two outs and two on against Rangers’ closer Neftali Feliz. The Rangers were one strike away from winning the World Series when 3B David Freese came up and cranked a 2-run triple to tie the game. In the top of the 10th inning, Jason Motte served up a 2-run homer to Josh Hamilton and things were looking bad for the Cardinals again. Lance Berkman came up in the bottom of the 10th inning, with the Cardinals down one run with two outs, and he cranked a single to CF to knock in Jon Jay and send the game to the 11th inning. Jake Westbrook worked a scoreless 11th inning to set up more heroics for David Freese as he cranked a solo homer to dead centerfield to give the Cardinals an improbable win.

David Freese (2 for 5 with 1 run scored, 1 triple, 1 homer and 3 RBIs) and Lance Berkman (3 for 5 with 4 runs scored, 1 homer and 3 RBIs) led the way for the Cardinals with the bats last night. Allen Craig (1 for 3 with a solo homer), Yadier Molina (1 for 4 with 2 RBIs), Daniel Descalso (2 for 2 with 1 run scored), Jon Jay (2 for 4 with 1 run scored) and Skip Schumaker (1 for 3 with 1 run scored) also pitched in with the bats for the Cardinals last night. The Cardinals were essentially running up to the plate after Colby Lewis was taken out of the game last night.

Jaime Garcia had a rough time for the Cardinals last night. He worked the first three innings for the Cardinals and he gave up 5 hits, 2 runs (both earned), while walking 2 batters and whiffing 3. Fernando Salas followed him in the game and he was not too good either. He worked 2 innings in which he gave up 2 hits, 2 runs (both were unearned), while walking 2 batters and whiffing 3. Lance Lynn was next up and he was truly awful. He worked 1 2/3 innings in which he gave up 4 hits (2 homers) and 3 runs (all earned), while walking none and whiffing 1. Octavio Dotel worked 1/3 of an inning without giving up any runs. Marc Rzepczynski worked a scoreless 8th inning as he got all three batters out that the faced. Jason Motte had issues as he worked 2 innings in which he gave up 2 hits (the homer to Josh Hamilton), 2 runs (both earned), while walking 1 batter and whiffing none. Jake Westbrook pitched a scoreless 11th inning, giving up only one hit and he was the winning pitcher. This sets up a winner take all Game #7 tonight with Chris Carpenter against the Rangers’ #4 starter, Matt Harrison.

The Cardinals fought hard last night but it all came crumbling down in the bottom of the 8th inning. Chris Carpenter started for the Cardinals and he was outstanding last night. He worked the first 7 innings in which he gave up six hits, 2 runs (both earned) while walking 2 batters and whiffing 4. Octavio Dotel could only get one out and he gave up 1 hit, 2 runs (both earned), 1 walk and he whiffed 1 batter. Marc Rzepczynski also had a rough night as he got one out while giving up 2 hits and whiffing 1 batter. Lance Lynn pitched to only one batter last night, and he walked him. Jason Motte finished out the game by whiffing the only batter he faced last night. Yadier Molina led the way for the Cardinals offensively as he was 3 for 4 with 1 RBI. Matt Holliday also had a solid game as he was 1 for 3 with 2 walks and 1 run scored. Skip Schumaker (1 for 3 with 1 RBI), Rafael Furcal (1 for 4) and David Freese (1 for 4) were the rest of the Cardinals’ offense last night. The Cardinals are now down 3-2 in the World Series as it shifts back to St. Louis for Game #6 and maybe Game #7.

The St. Louis Cardinals ran into a buzzsaw yesterday as Rangers’ starting pitcher Derek Holland was downright nasty. Lance Berkman was 2 for 3 with a double as he led the way with the bat for the Cardinals. The rest of the Cardinals were 0 for 25 last night! Edwin Jackson was shaky last night with his control and it got to him in the end. Jackson pitched 5 1/3 innings in which he allowed 3 hits and 7 walks while giving up 3 runs (all earned). He was the losing pitcher. Mitchell Boggs brought in the gas can for the Cardinals as he worked 1 2/3 innings in which he allowed 2 hits and 1 run (it was earned). He also allowed 2 of Jackson’s runners to score in the sixth inning. Jake Westbrook got his first post-season work as he threw a scoreless 8th inning. The World Series is now tied up at 2 games apiece with Game #5 in Texas tonight.

he Cardinals put on hitting clinic last night as they scored at least 1 run against every pitcher the Rangers used last night (there were six of them)! Albert Pujols was on fire with the bat as the ball looked like a beach ball to him last night. He was 5 for 6 with 4 runs scored, 3 homers and 6 RBIs. Pujols tied Reggie Jackson and Babe Ruth as the only players in Major League History with 3 homers in a World Series Game! Yadier Molina was also running up to the plate against the Rangers last night as he was 2 for 3 with 1 run scored, 2 doubles and 4 RBIs. David Freese (2 for 4 with 1 run scored, 1 double and 2 RBIs) and Allen Craig (1 for 5 with 2 runs scored, 1 homer and 1 RBI) continued to be a thorn in the Rangers’ side last night. Matt Holliday (1 for 5 with 3 runs scored), Lance Berkman (2 for 4 with 2 runs scored) and Ryan Theriot (1 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI) also pitched in with the sticks last night. Starting pitcher Kyle Lohse just didn’t have it last night. He worked the first 3 innings for the Cardinals last night and he gave up 5 hits and 3 runs (all earned) while walking 2 batters and whiffing 3. Fernando Salas brought in a gas can with him when he came into the game. He worked 1 inning in which he gave up 4 hits and 3 runs (all earned). Lance Lynn finally got the Rangers’ bats to silent somewhat as he worked 2 1/3 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 run (it was earned) while walking and whiffing 2 batters. He got the win. Octavio Dotel and Mitchell Boggs combined to work the final 2 2/3 innings without giving up any runs. The Cardinals are now up 2-1 in this series, with Game #4 tonight in Texas.

Jason Motte completely blew this game for the Cardinals.  He came into the game in the 9th inning with a 1-0 lead and went on to give up hits to the only two batters he faced.  Motte wound up being the losing pitcher as the first two guys batting after he left the game, hit sacrifice flies to give the Rangers a win.  Jaime Garcia was excellent last night as he worked the first 7 innings for the Cardinals, allowing only 3 hits and 0 runs while whiffing 7 batters and walking only 1.  He deserved to get a win last night….but didn’t.  Fernando Salas and Marc Rzepczynski combined to work a scoreless 8th inning for the Cardinals last night.  Arthur Rhodes and Lance Lynn combined to get all three batters they faced out in the 9th inning after Jason Motte left the game.  Allen Craig was almost the hero again for the Cardinals last night as he pinch hit for Jaime Garcia in the bottom of the 7th inning, once again against Alexi Ogando, and he knocked in a run with a single.  Nick Punto (2 for 4), David Freese (1 for 3 with 1 run scored), Rafael Furcal (1 for 5 with a double) and Lance Berkman (1 for 4) provided the rest of the scant offense for the Cardinals last night.  The Cardinals and Rangers are tied at 1 game apiece as the series shifts to Texas for the weekend.
