28-year old righty swinging 3B David Freese won the MVP of the World Series for the Cardinals. He played in all 7 games for the Cardinals in the World Series and he was 8 for 23 (.348 avg, 1.160 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 1 homer and 7 RBIs. Freese became only the sixth player in Major League History to win the MVP of a League Championship Series and a World Series! David Freese played in 19 games in the post-season this year for the Cardinals and he was 25 for 63 (.397 avg, 1.258 OPS) with 12 runs scored, 5 homers and 21 RBIs. The 21 RBIs are a new Major League Record for a player in the post-season. Freese essentially willed the Cardinals to win the World Series.

Lance Berkman has been the main man with the bat for the Cardinals so far in the World Series. He has played in six games for the Cardinals in the World Series and he is 10 for 23 (.435 avg, 1.127 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 1 homer and 5 RBIs. David Freese has been outstanding the whole post-season for the Cardinals. He has played in six games in this series and he is 7 for 21 (.333 avg, 1.083 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 1 homer and 5 RBIs. Yadier Molina has been a force in this series, both offensively and defensively for the Cardinals. He has played in six games for the Cardinals in this series and he is 6 for 21 (.286 avg, .741 OPS) with 1 run scored and an amazing 7 RBIs. Allen Craig has played in all six games too and he is 4 for 15 (.267 avg, 1.088 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 2 homers and 4 RBIs. Albert Pujols is 6 for 23 (.261 avg, 1.109 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 3 homers and 6 RBIs in the first six games of this series. The Cardinals need these guys to rip the ball tonight.

The Cardinals always knew what 28-year old righty swinging 3B David Freese was capable of, when healthy. Freese went out and won the MVP of the N.L.C.S. by destroying the Brewers’ pitching staff. Freese played in 6 games in the N.L.C.S. for the Cardinals and he was 12 of 22 (.545 avg, 1.691 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 3 doubles, 3 homers and 9 RBIs. The Cardinals hope the Freese’s bat stays hot for the World Series…and I think it will.

Lance Berkman of the St. Louis Cardinals is named the N.L. Comeback Player of the Year

35-year old switch-hitting 1B/DH Lance Berkman played in 122 games in 2010 for the Yankees & Astros and he was 100 for 404 (.248 avg, .781 OPS) with 48 runs scored, 14 homers, 58 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. The Cardinals signed him to a 1-year deal last winter with the idea of starting him in right field. No one thought his body would hold up with him moving back to the outfield in 2011. Berkman played a decent RF and his bat returned to previous potency in 2011 as he had the important job of batting behind Albert Pujols to give him protection. Berkman played in 145 games for the Cardinals in 2011 and he was 147 of 488 (.301 avg, .959 OPS) with 90 runs scored, 31 homers, 94 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. For that, Lance Berkman was named the National League’s Comeback Player of the Year Award in 2011.

Righty swinging 1B Albert Pujols and righty swinging 3B David Freese are both ripping the ball for the Cardinals in the playoffs. Pujols has played in 8 games in the playoffs so far and he is 14 for 31 (.452 avg, 1.288 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 7 doubles, 1 homer, 7 RBIs and 1 stolen base. The Brewers would be smart not to challenge Pujols too much in the rest of their series with the Cardinals. Freese has played in 8 games for the Cardinals so far in the playoffs and he is 11 for 30 (.367 avg, 1.187 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 4 doubles, 3 homers and 11 RBIs. Freese is finally healthy and showing exactly what he can do. The Cardinals hope both of these guys keep ripping the ball the rest of the way.
