The St. Louis Cardinals acquire Joel Pineiro and cash from the Red Sox

The Cardinals have acquired righty pitcher Joel Pineiro and cash from the Cardinals for a player to be named later.  Pineiro has struggled this season as a reliever for the Red Sox as he was 1-1 with a 5.03 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP in 31 games.  Pineiro tossed 34 innings for the Red Sox and he allowed 41 hits, walked 14 batters and whiffed 20.  The Cardinals will probably try to make Pineiro a starter as that’s where they have a need.  He has pitched in 216 games (148 starts) in his major league career and he has a 59-56 record with 1 save, a 4.50 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP.  He has tossed 1030 career innings in the majors and he has allowed 1074 hits, walked 341 batters and whiffed 678.  This was a nice addition to the Cardinals as their isn’t much risk involved seeing how the Red Sox will be paying him.
